Super easy, warming and comforting winter mocktail. Perfect for cozy winter nights,family gatherings, and festivities. This recipe is suitable for eveyrone who doesn't drink booze.
Pour the non-alcoholic red wine into a saucepan, set on medium heat and bring to simmer.
Add sliced oranges and mulling spices and keep simmering on low heat for about 15 minutes. Do not let it boil.
Strain and serve hot with a slice of fresh or dried orange.
Notes
Possible ingredient swaps:
Red grape juice (100%, 750 ml), mix of blackcurrant and cranberry or pomegranate juice (500 ml and 250 ml) or a mix of blackcurrant and apple juice (500 ml and 250ml).
Replace star anise or anise seed with whole allspice (½ tsp) and sugar.
Sliced fresh lemon or peeled lemon zest instead of fresh orange slices.
Variations:
Vanilla - add a vanilla pod (or 1tsp vanilla extract/syrup),
Cherry - add 1tsp of cherry syrup.
Storage & Other Tips:Never boil mulled wine, this would burn the spices.Strain the drink before serving and storing it - this will help keep it fresher for longer and stops it from turning bitter.For extra rich flavour, leave to rest for 30 mins to 60 minutes. Reheat on low heat for 10 minutes, strain and serve.Store it strained in the fridge for 3 up to 5 days. Freeze it if you wish to store it for longer.Reheat alcohol-free glögg on a stove top (hob) or in a slow-cooker - slowly on low heat. Do not use a microwave.
